Award-winning composer and multi-instrumentalist Matias Santos (b. 1995, Gothenburg, Sweden) began his musical journey at the age of 12, composing on a second-hand piano acquired by his parents. His formal training encompassed rigorous study in Western classical composition, music theory, and Swedish folk traditions, while his early creative pursuits extended into indie-pop as a performer and co-writer for the Gothenburg-based band Futile. Alongside these foundations, an immersion in diverse South American musical heritage further shaped his artistic identity, resulting in a distinctive compositional voice.
Matias maintains a multidisciplinary practice in Berlin, combining film composition and sound artistry, and finishing a master's degree at Konrad Wolf Film University Babelsberg under Professors Ulrich Reuter, Elias Karim Sebastian and Jörg Iwer.
He has achieved recognition as a finalist in the 2024 Berlin International Film Scoring Competition and the Composer Summit Prague, affirming his position within the contemporary film and art music landscape. His professional practice features significant collaborations, including work with directors Adam Harris, Aline Juarez, and Florentin Dotzauer, alongside multiple engagements with the prestigious Deutsche Film Orchester Babelsberg. Recent notable projects encompass the collaborative sound installation Prototype_2 (with Aljoša Dakić), presented at the Akademie der Künste Berlin (2025), and his contribution as film composer to Jakob Michal’s film Tough Moves, longlisted for the 2025 BAFTA Student Awards.
